I can’t believe it’s been 18 days since I posted. I’ve been so busy moving and unpacking and job searching and seeing friends and all those things that come along with moving home. All that time, and I feel like everything and nothing is happening, I’ve gotten so much done and yet not much at all.
I’m still unpacking and trying to get my life in order. I’ve framed some prints and painted a wall and lined up all my books, things that make me feel more at ease. Yet I still don’t have a dresser and my clothes are stacked on a rocking chair in my room, or still in boxes. I don’t have a chair, either, except for the rocking chair (which, although lovely, is terribly uncomfortable anyway).
The yarn seems to be right at home, though.
I had ordered all of this before I left my last address, and had it sent here. Nothing better than arriving home to a huge pile of packages! Two skeins of Rio de la Plata Superwash Merino Sock, one in Evergreen and one in Grape (I think), obtained in a trade for a huge box of already knit felting wool I wanted rid of before I moved. A huge huge huge 1-pound-12-ounce cone of sock weight grey tweed wool blend bought as destash from Etsy user Miss Purl. And a beautiful skein of Fearless Fibers‘ superwash merino in Kildare.
Summer of the sock, maybe?
The Fearless Fibers is earmarked for either knee socks or long gloves, I haven’t made up my mind yet. The giant cone of tweed isn’t really suitable for socks, I think - it’s got basically no stretch. Maybe ribbed socks would work, but I’m actually thinking I might try Teva Durham’s Cashmere Lace Blouse from Loop-d-Loop. The effect would be a lot more rustic than the cashmere version, but I think it might work. No ideas for the Evergreen sock yarn yet, but the Grape is already meeting it’s maker (ha!)…
I wanted to make my socks a little taller, so I did one extra cable section on the leg. Then I was completely paranoid I wouldn’t have enough yardage, and almost ripped… but I’m glad I didn’t. Upon finishing Sock #1, I still have a hair over 2 ounces left (from a 3.5 oz, 437 yard skein)! Excellent!
I am loving the pattern, Twisted Flower from Cookie A. I did scrap the lace heel flap in exchange for a twisted rib version - much sturdier in my opinion, and I like the way the lines continue down from the cables at the ankle.
This bright purple is not a color I would normally choose for myself. I’m actually just ending a long period of anti-purple in my life, which I believe began in 8th grade, when purple was my favorite color. My parents were redoing my room and my sisters room, and we got to choose the carpet and paint colors… and I, of course, chose purple. Sometime in high school I began to totally regret it and hate it, and there was about a 6 year period where I didn’t own any purple clothes and just generally kind of hated it. One of my college roommates (the fashion-forward one) actually told me I really needed some lilac in my wardrobe, and I think I just made a terrible face at her. Purple, gah! And now, it is fast becoming a new favorite.
Cosymakes wrote a great post about color last week, maybe thats why it’s on my brain. I love her choice of “pukey” colors myself, and I migrate towards green a lot as well. She claims to not have a “favorite” color, which is a sentiment I both agree and disagree with. As much as I love colors in general, and don’t think that a shirt will be better in green just because its my “favorite”, there are certain colors which I gravitate towards - right now, it is purple and yellow. (Yes, even together. Clash? Me? Never.) But what looks good in purple today or good in yellow in this particular room might not work tomorrow or next door. Everything, even color, has context.
Anyway. Good to be home. Hope everyone had a lovely long weekend!

Dang, that’s some HUGE yarn!
Oh wait, it’s a cute small couch! Where did you find it? Your sock is gorgeous, by the way!

Pardon, I’ve noticed you left your Chesterfield on the rail. Please show care or else it might tumble off.

The smallness of the couch confuses me, too. Though I know it’s just a small couch and not giant yarn, I can’t force my brain to see it that way.
Glad you’re back!

Great pictures! I’m sure there is nothing like yarn purchases to perk up a stressful move (or any stressful time really).
